About Father Victor (aka Jonathan Favero):
Jonathan Favero was born in Springfield, Illinois in February of 1981. He is a composer,
performer, and writer who currently lives in Charlottesville, VA.
Jonathan recently graduated with a Bachelor’s of Music Composition from Illinois State
University,
where he studied acoustic music composition with David Feurzeig, Martha
C. Horst, and David Maslanka; electronic music composition with Matthew Smith;
improvisation with William K. Koehler; and classical guitar with Angelo L. Favis.
While attending ISU Jonathan was given numerous performances and presentations of his chamber and electronic music, including his first String Quartet, which received the Harlan Peithman Award for Music Theory and Composition; Sketches for Ten Guitars, written upon request of Dr. Angelo L. Favis, and premiered at the 2008 Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival; Music for Sikc Ward, for the short film Sikc Ward by Benjamin Chaykin; and Commemoration, a synthesis-based piece, which was written to commemorate the Fifth Anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Also, he performed regularly with the Illinois State University Guitar Ensemble, led by Angelo L. Favis, The Grass-Hopper Unit, The LTR Duo, and as soloist in the ISU Guitar Potpourri Series, ISU Guitar Studio Guest Artist Master Classes, and the ISU School of Music Convocation Hour.
Current projects of Jonathan’s include: Redemption, a musical narrative for Unaccompanied Alto Saxophone, which was commissioned by Matthew Muneses and
Alex Teater of Illinois State University, and Marcos Duran of Baylor University; a neoclassic Sonata for Guitar and Marimba; a full-length electronic album of sacred music
titled Meditation; a collection of humorous and morbid poems; a novel; and participation as instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, and lyricist in an eclectic, (as of yet)
unnamed alternative rock/country band based in Springfield.
