"Going Nowhere"
ABOUT CITIZEN ESCAPE:
Citizen Escape got their start in 2008 by providing bar crowds in Bellingham, Wash with a welcome break from the college-town's drab indie scene. Since then, the hard-rocking quartet has become a regular on the late-night club and all-ages circuit of Western Washington, sharing the stage with accomplished local acts such as No-Fi Soul Rebellion, Rishloo, The Boss Martians and Tsavo.
After producing their self-titled debut album in 2009, Citizen Escape introduced a driving, catchy album to local audiences with world-wide digital distribution on iTunes. With a tasteful ebb and flow of energy, Citizen's debut brought with it a somewhat Nimrod-esque (Green Day) appeal to fans of pop/punk. The band's next and latest release came in the form of a five-song EP titled "Fables" in January, 2011. Delivering a taste of a new, mature, and distinctly more provoked Citizen Escape, "Fables" lets loose a well produced post-punk sound complete with punchy guitars and laden with vocal harmonies.
For Jason, Ryan, Billy and Brian, Citizen Escape's music is a concoction of many musical tastes. Crediting bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Brand New, 311, and Pink Floyd for much of their creative inspiration, this divergence of musical palates produces a sound that many have likened to that of Incubus or the Foo Fighters. This is not to say that there isn't something for everyone in the band's repertoire; throwing down everything from hook-driven pop/punk numbers (Going Nowhere), lyrical hip-hop ballads (Mankind Rewind) to riot-inciting bar room singalongs (Angry Monkey Noise), Citizen Escape manages to keep it interesting and refreshingly original.
