Cualquiera is a 21 year old artist, hairdresser, and student living smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles. Rather than keep the artistic and academic fields of her life separate, she seeks to use art as a way of understanding, expanding upon, and conveying the ideas she engages in her study of international development and public health at UCLA. A self-trained artist, Cualquiera's works are made almost exclusively from reused or recycled materials-- a majority of resources used are found, literally, on the streets of LA. Each piece functions on both macro and micro scales in order to convey the balance between individuated parts that make up larger systems. But ultimately, its that darn selfish personal joy of creation that motivates her efforts. Cualquiera has plans to graduate from college this spring, do field work/research in Kenya and Bolivia this summer, and then move to Buenos Aires, Argentina this fall to paint murals and see whats going on in the world. Cualquiera's work appears in the "Dialogue" issue of Status Hat, April 2010.
